The Results are in for the 2008-09 Great Questions Essay Competition!

The Historica-Dominion Institute is proud to announce the winners of this year’s essay competition. First prize went to Tim Mak of West Vancouver, BC for his essay “From the Basement Stacks to the Airways: The Democratization of History.” First Runner up was Katherine Ann St-Louis of Montréal, QC and Second Runner up is Owen Pachal of Cobble Hill, BC. The prize for class submissions went to Mr. Kevin Wallace’s grade 11 students from Pinetree Secondary School in Coquitlam, BC.

The Historica-Dominion Institute staff would like to extend their congratulations to each of the over 250 participants who entered this year’s essay competition.

The Historica-Dominion Institute is challenging young Canadians across the country to express their views on some important issues facing Canadians today. Using the book Great Questions of Canada, students are asked to write an essay on one of the six Great Questions debate topics. The winning entry will receive a $2000 cash prize, have their essay published on the website and win a trip to Ottawa for the award ceremonies in 2010. Additional prizes will also be awarded for classrooms who participate!

Take part in the 2010 contest! Participants and educators are asked to read the contest rules prior to submitting an essay.

Contest deadline is June 30, 2010
